In June 2024, Dr. Jernigan-Noesi gave the commencement address at Palo Alto University, at which time she was awarded an honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters. In her address to graduating students, she stated, “… the needs of communities are not met when we remain silent and choose our inability to tolerate alleged discomfort rather than boldly speak up for the sake of Liberation for all… so long as we prioritize our own experiences instead of reminding ourselves that when we encounter something that is confusing or something that doesn’t make sense or something that fails to align with our personal values those, are precisely the moments when we need to ask ourselves: What am missing? What don’t I know that will better help me to understand the perspectives of others you see?”
