Kennesaw is a city in Cobb County, located northwest of Atlanta and considered part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. What was originally a shantytown for workers in the 1830s building the Western and Atlantic Railroad has become a booming suburb with just over 30,000 residents.
Kennesaw is home to Kennesaw State University, the second-largest university in Georgia, with the largest freshman class in the state. The university has contributed to drug abuse issues within the city as students experiment with drugs and alcohol. This has created the need for drug rehab centers in Kennesaw, GA, since students can fall into the party scene now that they are free from parental supervision and end up struggling with drug or alcohol addiction.
Drug Abuse Prevalence in Kennesaw
With the high volume of young adults in Kennesaw, substance abuse is a growing trend. The Drug Surveillance Unit of Georgia reported that Cobb County had a moderate to high vulnerability regarding the increase in opioid overdoses. Additionally, Cobb County had a higher rate of emergency department visits due to opioid overdose than Georgia.
Kennesaw State University (KSU) recognizes the dangers of drug addiction, and its Center for Young Adult Addiction and Recovery (CYAAR) offers programs like its Collegiate Recovery Program to help students struggling with addiction by connecting them with resources and support to allow them to thrive in school while going through their recovery journey.
About 9% of college students meet the criteria for an alcohol use disorder, and the number of people aged 19-28 using illicit drugs increased from 32% in 2006 to 44% in 2019. This is not simply a collegiate issue, as Kennesaw and Cobb County face the same need for substance abuse treatment affecting KSU. 2018 Cobb County reported 112 drug overdose deaths, of which 73% were opioid-related.
With access to effective addiction treatment centers, these tragic deaths can hopefully be prevented as more people seek rehab programs for substance use disorder (SUD). The Summit Wellness Group has two recovery center locations, Roswell and midtown Atlanta, to provide treatment options.
Due to higher drug abuse rates and the collegiate party scene, this may not be the best location for you to undergo drug or alcohol treatment. If you are from this area, you will still be surrounded by all your triggers and negative influences contributing to your substance abuse.

Does Your Loved One Need Addiction Treatment?
Recognizing signs of drug addiction is integral to determining if your loved one needs drug or alcohol rehab. Many symptoms of drug dependency can vary for different substances, but these common signs can help you recognize the general signs of drug addiction.
- Inability to stop, despite wanting to. Individuals who have become dependent on substances find it challenging to control their drug use, no matter how strong their desire to quit may be. They may have tried many times but always seem to relapse. They may also hide their addiction from loved ones, deny their problem, or lash out when someone suggests they need help.
- Need for more. Over extended periods of substance use, people begin developing tolerance and require more substance to experience the same effects they used to. This leads them to take higher doses and increase their frequency of time spent obtaining and using the drug.
- Loss of control. Addiction causes individuals to prioritize drug use above everything else. They become helpless to resist the temptations of substance abuse. This leads to feelings of guilt, depression, and other mental health disorders.
- Impact on life. Addiction affects the individual’s physical and mental health, relationships, work, school, and general obligations. They struggle to maintain responsibilities due to substance use, as they either forget or choose to prioritize drug use instead.
Why Choose The Summit Wellness Group Recovery Programs?
Your choice of treatment facility can make a huge difference in your recovery journey. Picking the right rehab program is essential to your long-term recovery. At The Summit Wellness Group, our first step is conducting an intake assessment for each new patient, which allows our team to create a personalized treatment plan best suited to help them gain freedom from addiction.
- Accreditation and highly qualified staff: We are accredited by the Joint Commission. We are recognized for our expertise in providing quality care and focus on patient safety during addiction treatment. Many of our staff members are in long-term recovery, so they can relate to our patients’ struggles and provide unique insight and medical advice during their journey to sobriety.
- Dual diagnosis: Individuals with substance use disorders are often also suffering from a mental illness that may contribute to their decision to abuse drugs or alcohol in an attempt to cope or self-medicate. By treating these co-occurring disorders and addressing mental health disorders that may be the root cause of a patient’s substance abuse, we aim to ensure long-term recovery.
- Luxury amenities: Our rehab centers in Roswell and Midtown Atlanta are newly renovated with upscale furniture and an environment that highlights patient comfort. We aim to make our patients feel at ease with access to gourmet meals, a fitness facility, and comfortable beds.
Treatment Programs We Offer
- Medical detox: Detoxification from any substance can have dangerous and life-threatening side effects. For severe drug or alcohol addiction, inpatient treatment during our residential detox program offers patients 24/7 medical supervision from our trained staff to ensure their safety. Our detox center also reduces the risk of relapse during drug or alcohol rehab.
- Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP): PHP is our most intensive outpatient treatment program. This program typically lasts for about 2-4 weeks. Patients will visit our treatment facility from Monday through Friday, logging 30 hours a week of treatment services before returning home in the evening. PHP consists of individual therapy, group therapy, family therapy, 12-step programs, and holistic treatment.
- Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP): IOP is a day treatment program that usually lasts between 3-6 months and uses the same blend of treatment options as PHP, just on a lesser scale. IOP is a step-down for patients who have completed more intensive programs but aren’t ready for outpatient treatment. It can also be used for patients with mild substance abuse issues who don’t require the higher structure and supervision of residential treatment or PHP.
- Sober living: This housing program helps patients transition to daily life after completing their treatment plan. When you have completed treatment at The Summit Wellness Group, our team works with patients to determine which aftercare program will benefit them most. Sober living is a structured environment that holds residents accountable with drug tests, curfews, and regular meetings and support groups.
Our Treatment Services
- Evidence-based treatment: Our customized treatment plans provide each patient with a combination of scientifically-backed treatment methods such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), motivational enhancement therapy, group therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and experiential therapy.
- Holistic therapy: Our holistic approach goes beyond addiction treatment and allows us to dive deeper by focusing on each patient’s mind, body, and psyche. This treatment uses yoga, massage therapy, guided meditation, nutrition, chiropractic care, fitness programs, art therapy, and adventure activities to help patients unburden themselves, discover hobbies that improve their mental health, and find more from life than substance abuse.
- Relapse prevention: This program combines CBT, mind-body relaxation, community outreach, and 12-step groups to teach patients healthy habits and coping mechanisms to manage cravings and stay in recovery. After completing our treatment programs, these programs help patients learn tools to support sobriety.
